John D.S. Adams


John D.S. Adams currently resides in Toronto where he is active performing, composing, and recording music. Adams returned to Canada in 1996 after five years in New York City where he was performing with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and acting as a hands-on assistant to electronic music pioneer David Tudor. During his association with Tudor, Adams broadened his familiarity and understanding of Tudor's electronic music compositions and was requested by the composer to realize and perform his music in the US, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Taiwan. Adams most recently joined ranks with New York based Composers Inside Electronics to perform TudorŐs Rainforest IV at the Lincoln Center Festival 98 and for the Lincoln Center Institutes school outreach program.

Adams has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the premiere experimental music composers and musicians of our time, including John Cage, Walter Zimmerman, Takehisa Kosugi, Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta, Yasunao Tone, Andrew Culver, John Driscoll, Steve Lacy and Stuart Dempster. In 1995 Adams performed with Pauline Oliveros at the Prague Spring Festival's 50th anniversary and recently attended the Deep Listening Retreat. He has also performed with New York's S.E.M. Ensemble in 1993 performances in Berlin.

As an engineer and producer Adams has worked on a variety of recording projects in film and music, including music recording for the award winning Beach Birds: For Camera, Yasunao Tone's CD release Musica Iconologos as well as David Tudor's Lovely Music (Ltd.) releases, Neural Synthesis No. 6-9 and Three Works for Live Electronics. Adams has also earned recording production credits on Sony Classical, BMG, Universal, Analekta and the VOX recording labels.
